“When I was initially asked to attend the Mental Health First Aider training, I wasn’t sure what to expect or how I could potentially offer support to a team member or colleague going through an episode of mental ill health. Our group was a mixed group, with individuals from a number of different roles within different sectors. Our trainers, Jill and Tricia, were extremely knowledgeable and did a great job of facilitating group discussions at various points across the two days. Everybody worked together in small groups and pairs,  which created a safe space for experiences to be shared and for us all to work on our newly-acquired skills without fear of judgement. The content of the course was extremely thought-provoking and made me think about how I can change or improve the way that I approach situations that I come across at work. I would not hesitate in recommending the course to others; for me, it has cemented the importance of creating a forum where people feel able to discuss their mental health openly with the expectation that support will be provided, knowing the benefits that this brings for the individual and also for the wider business. I have continued to reflect on the course materials since completing the two days and feel well-equipped and confident to support my colleagues going forward.”
